The social consultations of the Revitalisation Programme of the Town and Municipality of Wieliczka

The social consultations of "Revitalisation Programme of the Town and Municipality of Wieliczka between the years 2007-2015" are starting.

The project has been prepared on commission of the Wieliczka Town and Municipality Office by the especially appointed team of experts, who on the basis of diagnosis of the town defined the areas in need od revitalisation.

The document is coherent with the directions of development,aims and tasks contained in the strategic and planning documents developed on the basis of the voivodeship as well as the Town itself.

The revitalisation programme is a basis upon which one can apply for the European Union subsidies as a part of the Integrated Regional Development Programme.

Without this key document the Municipality has no chance of applying for higher financial means necessary to commencement of complex renewal of the urban space.

The revitalisation draft can be viewed on the web page www.wieliczka.eu as well as in the Town and Municipality of Wieliczka Office, ul.Sienkiewicza 2, room no.5 until 2nd July 2008.

Opinions related to the programme can be submitted directly in the premises of the Office at Sienkiewicza Street 2 or via internet:rewitalizacja@wieliczka.eu

The aim od the Revitalisation Programme is to improve the aesthetics and functionality of the public space of the town, which is of great importance to the economic development, especially in the field of tourism.

During the year 2007 relevant materials were being completed and a number of project analyses related to the particular, chosen areas of the town.

The revitalisation programme presented to the residents of Wieliczka is a coherent document which puts together complementary ventures related to Wieliczka undertaken by the authorities of the: Town and Municipality of Wieliczka, the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine and the Wieliczka district.

The basic assumptions of the "Revitalisation Programme of the Town and Municiplaity of Wieliczka":

- reconstruction of the Upper Market Square flagstone, icluding reconstruction of the stairs and the fountain at the Przychocki Palace;

- reconstruction of the "Bednarka" Market Square including the inbuilt underground parking for the users and the tourists;

- construction of the library and the regional chamber at the Skulimowski Pl. and putting in order the already existent building complex of the Konopka Palace;

- rennovation of the Regis shaft in order to render the object accessible to the people sighsteeing the underground tourist route of the Mine;

- revitalisation of the sacral objects;

- revitalisation of the elevation of historic mansions;

- revitalisation of the Mickiewicz Park as a part of which thematic gardens shall be arranged, including: the English Garden, the period (historic) garden, saline garden, a viewing bridge, a pier running along the Matejki Street, stations for the fishermen and an alley of sculptures;

- revitalisation of the railways area;

- construction of the John Paul II monument at the John Paul II Alley;

- putting in order the elements forming the aesthetics of the space at the entrance to the town, above all the information carriers

The revitalisation programme covers the whole town, with distinction of the key areas of special significance for construction of a positivem image of the town.

According to the ssumptions of the presented programme, the revitalisation avtivities are concentrated around the places related to integration and relaxation (The Market Square) and business (The Bednarka Square) and areas located along the route to the historic "Wieliczka" Salt Mine.

According to the experience of other towns, the revitalisation of a historic centre of the town is doubtless a great chance to increase the potential and dynamism of the development of the town.
