Deadline whereby the first social building financed from our municipal budget is to be ready for use is approaching. Advanced finishing works are underway at the Jasna Street. They are to be finished in July this year. That's when the persons placed on the beginning of the list of some two hundred applications concerning award of the social accomodations shall be able to prepare for moving in.
In the history of all the countries and societies there always are breakthrough events which are then stored in the memory of the generations as the most valuable heritage. For our homeland it is certainly the 3rd of May Constitution Passage, the 217th anniversary of which we celebrated on Saturday. The celebrations began with the holy service dedicated to the Homeland, celebrated in the St.Klemens church in Wieliczka.
This year's National Flag Holiday celebrations have for the first time been organised in the form of an open-air family holiday event with a strong patriotic undertone. The programme of the Wieliczka May Holidays was aimed at both the elder and young, who attended the event with their families, altogether. There was "The Clown Dyzio Show" with the children's repertoire while the elder specators, still remembering the Solidarity times were surely thrilled by the fact they could see a performance by Jan Pietrzak and the"Pod Egidą" Cabaret.
As a part of the European Week celebrations (15th-21st May 2008) in the partner town of Wieliczka - Saint-Andre-lez-Lille - a performance by the Song and Dance Ensemble "Raciborsko" took place. The young dancers from "Raciborsk", celebrating this year 15th anniversary of the ensemble, performed three dance suites:from Cracow, Rzeszów and Łowicz. Among the delegation representing our municipality there were the councillors:Tadeusz Luraniec and Ireneusz Rozwadowski.
On 21st May 2008 at the State Fund For the Preservation of the Environment and the Water Economy in Cracow, the Wieliczka Municipality has applied for the dotation from the resources of the Operational Programme "Infrastructure and the Environment" for realisation of the project entitled "Construction of the Canalisation Works in the Municipality of Wieliczka".The application covers first stage of the planned enterprise:meaning - the town of Wieliczka as well as the villages of Czarnochowice, Chorągwica, Kokotów, Lednica Górna, Mietniów, Rożnowa, Śledziejowice, Zabawa.
On 21st May 2008 at midday on the junction of the roads to Wieliczka and Różnowa, a symbolic commencement of the works concerning modernisation of the state road no. 964,Wieliczka - Kasina Wielka sector, took place. The mayor of Wieliczka, Artur Kozioł welcomed the guests who arrived to witness the event:the Marshalls of the Małopolska State - Roman Ciepiela and Wojciech Kozak, senators - Maciej Klima and Tadeusz Skorupa, the vice-prefect of the Wieliczka district, Mirosław Mrozowski along with the representatives of the local governments from the areas through which the state road no. 964 runs and the representatives of the State Roads and Police Board. The investment is being financed with the European Union financial means as a part of the Małopolska Regional Operational Programme, and the altogether cost equals almost 39 mln PLN.
The most secret wish of the 6 years old Ola Kuc has come true - she became Queen of the Rainbow. The reign of the little Oleńka has began along with a family fete, which took place on Saturday, the 17th May 2008 in Primary School No.4 in the Krzyszkowice housing area in Wieliczka. During the fete an amount of money close to 6 thousand PLN has been collected for the rehabilitation of the six-year-old Ola Kuc, suffering from an incurable disease - the Leigh Syndrome.The honourable patronage over the event was taken by Mayor Artur Kozioł, who also funded a bicycyle as a prize for a family most numerously attending the event.
From Friday to Sunday (23rd-25th May) the Choir of the Camerata Music Society from Wieliczka visited the town of Zvolen with concerts, invited by the town's local government. The choir represented our town during the celebrations of the 765th anniversary of the town of Zvolen and 125th anniversary of the Town of Zvolen Choir celebrations.During the official meeting with the Zvolen authorities in the Civic Theatre chairman of the choir from Wieliczka, Elżbieta Achinger handed Elżbieta Stanikova, the vice-mayor of Zvolen the congratulations letter from the mayor of Wieliczka, Artur Kozioł. She also forwarded a congratulations letter to the conductor of the Zvolen choir - Mr Bożidar Vongrej.
Since 1st May our town can be reached directly from the centre of Cracow thanks to the new public communication bus no. 304. It is an express bus and it stops - beginning with the Main Railway Station West (the Shopping Mall) - on the following bus stops:Teatr Bagatela (the Bagatela Theatre), Filharmonia (the Philharmonia),pl.Wolnica (the Wolnica Square),Korona, Bieżanowska St, Prokocim Szpital (the Prokocim Hospital), Wieliczka Kopalnia Soli (the Wieliczka Salt Mine),Wieliczka Rynek (the Wieliczka Main Square), Wieliczka (the terminus for the buses "204").
Yesterday an Inter-District Review of the 31st Wieliczka Brass Band Orchestra Festival has been conducted. The jury, consisting of Stanisław Migacz and Captain Stefan Żuk has awarded two first places aex-equo - to the Old Town Brass Band from Cracow and the Representative Brass Band of the Town and Municipality of Świątniki Górne. Mayor of Wieliczka, Artur Kozioł funded a cup, which he personally handed to the winner orchestra from Świątniki Górne, while the Old Town Orchestra from Cracow has received a cup of the Wieliczka District Foreman Jacek Juszkiewcz.
The Oriental Culture Festival of Wieliczka, organised on 24th May 2008 assembled crowds of the Far East culture and art lovers. The event had a form of an open-air festival. A colourful parade where a lion and the dragons were to be seen marched through the streets of our town.As a part of the festival the following workshops were organised:Japanese ceramics, tea brewing, Eastern board games, Chinese and Japanese calligraphy,dance with fans and origami construction. The chief organiser of the Saturday festival was the Wieliczka Youth Sport Club Kung-Fu.
A real chance appeared to gain acceptance for the project related to the town transport in the metropolitan areas, connected with the EURO 2012 organisation, put together by the President of the Town of Cracow - Jacek Majchrowski, Mayor of Wieliczka, Artur Kozioł, the Chief Director of the Polish Railways PKP S.A. Włodzimierz Żmuda and the PKP Regional Transportation Director Jacek Zadęcki. It is the result of the second stage of a review of projects whereby the Wieliczka - Kraków project has been qualified to the third (and last) stage of verification. Inkeeping with the document, 100 mln Euro is to be allotted to Małopolska.
The great rennovation process of the railway lines around Cracow as a part of construction of the integrated system of collective communication in the Cracow agglomeration shall start in Wieliczka, inkeeping with the efforts of our municipality.
Each family, which along with their kids attended the Sunday Children's Day fete organised by the Town and Municipality of Wieliczka, certainly could not be disappointed.
Yesterday, in the Wieliczka Town Hall the final of the competition "Saint Kinga in words and on the pictures or a rebus concerning the patron of Wieliczka" took place.
Today III Wieliczka Youth Leader Forum has begun. It is going to be conducted between 5th and 6th June 2008 in our town.
The end of the school year and the beginning of summer is traditionally the time for family fetes.One of them has been organised this week in the Council Kindergarten no1 in Wieliczka under the banner of the Family Day - combining the three neighbouring occassions:the Mother's Day, the Father's Day and the International Children's Day.

A modern computer studio has been rendered accessible in the Sygneczów Primary School.The official opening was performed by the vice-mayor of Wieliczka - Henryk Gawor and the director of the Department of Education - Maciej Wojnarowski.
The public communication line signed with the number 304 is now being attended upon by the new Iveco Citelis buses purchased by the Warsaw - based firm Mobilis. From 8th June in the streets of Wieliczka appeared new characteristic yellow vehicles.
