Expansion of the monitoring

The visual montoring system in Wieliczka plays an extremely significant role in fast and reliable reaction to the situations of offences against the law and peace disturbances in our town.

Presently 11 cameras are in use, including 9 stationary, the so-called "revolving" cameras and two "stiff" ones, installed during the last weeks in the areas of the National Rememberance Institute headquarters and the supermarket "Biedronka".

The cameras are being installed in the places of greatest traffic intensity - on the road junctions, pedestrian crossings as well as in the areas regarded generally as dangerous (for example the environs of the railway line).

In accordance with the suggestions of the residents of our town, further progress of monitoring is being planned.

The first camera in Wieliczka has been installed in the year 2004 at the John Paul II Alley, and the further development of the monitoring system was conducted in three stages in the years 2004, 2005, and 2006.

This year a camera installed at the Batory Street has been exchanged and in the upcoming weeks a new "eye" is going to be installed at the John Paul II Alley, because the image transmitted up till now has not been sharp enough. Also, new controllers are to be purchased out of municipal funds, which shall allow shortening of the time necessary to move from one image registration to the next one to three seconds.

The monitoring centre is located in the Wieliczka Municipal Guards headquarters.

The following places are being monitored using the stationary cameras:

Aleja Jana Pawła II,

Goliana - Sikorskiego St,

Upper Market Square (Rynek Górny),

Mickiewicza St and the area near the railway tracks,

Szpunara St,

Dembowskiego St, skrzyżowanie z Daniłowicza St

Słowackiego St, area of the National Rememberance Institute,

Zamkowa St,

Batorego St, junction with the Limanowskiego St.

The image recorded by the cameras is under guidance of a person in the monitoring centre 24 hours a day. In case dangerous occurences are noticed, the information is straight away reported to the municipal guards patrolling the town, who intervene immediately. Between 10 PM and 6AM on the other hand, the problem is reported to the duty officer at the Wieliczka District Police headquarters. During the four years of visual monitoring many successful intervention actions have been undertaken. They were the result of occurences such as robbery, burglary and road collisions registered by the cameras.Very often action was required beacuse of improprer parking. In accordance with the expectations of the residents, expansion of the monitoring is being planned in the environs of big markets, schools as well as in the areas of intensive traffic.
