Inauguration of the school year 2008/2009

On 1st September over five thousand primary and grammar school students from the Wieliczka Municipality participated in the official school year 2008/2009 inauguration. This time the municipal school year inauguration took place in the Węgrzce Wielkie Grammar School.The ceremony was accompanied by the symbolic commissioning of the new playgrounds.

The celebration was attended by the Municipality's host Artur Kozioł, vice-mayor Henryk Gawor, Senior Inspector of the Education Board in Cracow Jadwiga Bogucka, chairman of the Education, Sport and Culture Committee Lech Pankiewicz,director of the Department of Education Maciej Wojnarowski, as well as the councillors, directors of schools and kindergartens along with the teachers from the area of the Wieliczka Municipality."You've got to expect a lot from yourselves" - the words the Pope John Paul II prononunced during one of his frequent meetings with the youth became the motto of an occassional ceremony prepared by the students of the Węgrzce Wielkie Grammar School.

Inspired by the meaning of these words, director of the local institution, Mr Wiesław Zakręcki, addressed the large group of year one pupils -106 persons - with a hope they shall care for the place where they are going to study.

The elder students prepared the artistic side of the event, where reminiscences of the tragic events of 1st September 1939 were presented with the subsequent performance by the school rock and blues band.

The symbolic cutting in half of the streamer separating from the entrance onto the new sport playgrounds added splendour to the ceremony in Węgrzce Wielkie.

In the school year 2008/2009 the pupils can utilise two modern playgrounds, one - covered with artificial grass, destined for volleyball and tennis games and the other destined for basketball, with a tartan toplayer.
