The effects of the renovation works pertaining to the church of Holy Mother of Częstochowa in Gorzków, which have been commenced in June can be observed already. The exterior of the historic sanctuary can now be admired as much as the ravishing interior.

The elevation of the church has been renovated and the wooden entrance doors have been installed in accordance with the historic monuments’ conservator. 200 thousand PLN have been allotted from the budget of the Wieliczka municipality to the conservation-renovation works of the Gorzków church while the rest of the necessary funds have been provided by the parishioners.

The Holy Mother of Częstochowa parish church of Gorzków has been placed in the historic monuments register on 29th December 1987. That’s why the conservation-renovation works are being conducted under the supervision of the Voivodeship Historic Monuments’ Protection Office in Cracow. Analyses of the archival materials, in particular the photographs and the inventarisation of the building’s overall condition from the year 1975 allowed to determine the way the church looked originally.

In the first stage of the works in Gorzków the concrete slab around the church has been torn off and the plaster from the lower part of the building covering the foundations has been liquidated.

It has also been necessary to dehydrate the area around the church, which for many, many years has been a subject to excessive humidity destructive to the historic interior.

After the end of the earthworks, renovation of the sanctuary’s elevation commenced.

Moreover, according to the analyses of the archival materials the entrance doors were originally made of wood and the presently used metal ones have been installed during the renovation works conducted in the Seventies.

Inkeeping with the conservator’s recommendations it has been decided to exchange them. Presently the doors made of oak wood made by the parishioner Bogdan Stachura have been installed already.

The municipal authorities concerned with preservation of the national heritage are planning in the following years to increase the funds for the renovation of the objects enlisted in the historic monuments register.

Thanks to such activities the Wieliczka Municipality shall become even more attractive from the tourist point of view and the historic monuments shall not be forgotten.
