The newly prepared study for the zoning plan has extended the areas available for investment to 200 hectares.
The Wieliczka Zone of Economic Activity is in an ideal location as it borders Krakow and the southern section of the city’s ring road. The investment zone comprises three industrial clusters sized 20 to 80 hectares. In addition, the borough is bisected by a clearway to Rzeszów, which is going to be converted into a highway connecting Krakow and Lviv in the near future. Wieliczka is a highly attractive place to live. It is estimated that new residential loci may ultimately increase the population of Wieliczka from today’s 50 thousand to some 200 thousand. New residential developments with adequate facilities will be created in areas released for residential and commercial activity. The growing number of residents is a remarkable challenge for the authorities of the borough. Many current investments are aimed at improving residents’ standard of life. Improving security on roads is another top priority, hence numerous road improvements such as new pavements, car parks and traffic lights. With our youngest road users in mind, we have run a campaign called Hi-Viz Kids, in which high-visibility jackets were distributed to all the children in the borough.
Other ongoing investment projects include building new, as well as extending existing, schools, day care centres, and sports facilities. New dwellings emerge, as well as new playgrounds, to which around 400,000 zlotys are allocated in this year’s budget. Every year, Wieliczka carries out at least two large-scale healthcare programmes financed in whole by the borough. This year’s plans include a Programme for the Prevention of Meningococcal Infections among 6-year-olds and an Educational and Prophylactic Programme for the Early Diagnosis of Breast Cancer in women aged 35-50.”
