On Sunday, 29th June on the courtyard of the Cracow's Saline Works Castle the first concert of the cycle entitled "An afternoon with Strauss" took place. In front of numerously gathered public performed the Strauss "Obligato" Orchestra conducted by Jerzy Sobeńko.
The vocal solo parts were performed by Marta Poliszot - soprano - and Andrzej Biegun – baritone.
This year we're celebrating the fifteenth, anniversary edition of the Strauss music concert cycles.
"Afternoons with Strauss" are being organised in the period of time between June and September 2008 on each last Sunday of the month, always starting at 4 PM.
All the concerts take place on the grounds of the Cracow's Saline Works Museum and in the underground exposition of the Museum in the Alfons Długosz Chamber on the third level of the Wieliczka Salt Mine.The concerts gather conscious music listeners from all the age groups. For 15 years now music culture of the end of 18th, 19th and 20th centuries has been presented through the music works of this period, performed by the best Polish and foreign artists.
In 2000 the cycle of concerts entitled "An afternoon with Strauss" has been honoured by the Minister of Culture with the "Sibilla" prize as the most interesting cultural event of the year.
