Similarly like the last year the students of all universities and colleges can take part in the competition the subject of which is selection of the best masters and licentiate theses related to Wieliczka. The aim of the competition is to arouse the students interest in the local subject-matter and to deepen their knowledge of the small homeland.
The theses can turn out to be an interesting way of promoting the Wieliczka region. The winners shall receive financial prizes. The deadline by which the theses are to be submitted under the following address: „Urząd Miasta i Gminy Wieliczka, ul. Powstania Warszawskiego 1, 32-020 Wieliczka” is 30th October 2008 .Last year 11 masters theses were submitted. The committee appointed by the Mayor of Wieliczka awarded the first place in the masters theses category to Barbara Konopka for "The project of land management in Wieliczka - The "pod Baranem" Park and a distinction to Piotr Rozwadowski for a thesis entitled :"The multimedia presentation of the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine and the Cracow's Saline Works Museum". In the category "licentiate works" the first place went to Maria Orłowska - the author of a work entitled "Curing the respiratory system diseases based on the example of the Wieliczka Salt Mine".Two other works were also distincted; the authors were: Barbara Sitko - for the work "The advantages and tourist attractions of the Town and Municipality of Wieliczka" and Ryszard Knurowski - "The local press in the Wieliczka Municipality between the years 1989-2005".The subject matter of the works submitted to the competition was really diverse;the issues brought up included counteracting against unemployment in our district as well as more universal topics related to the protection of objects of material culture based on the example of Wieliczka. This year as well we are waiting for new ideas and interesting works. An overall sum of 20 thousand PLN is waiting for the prizewinners.
